Who We Are
A survivor-led community dedicated to preserving memory, supporting healing, and building a future rooted in justice and dignity.
Born from Survival,
Built on Purpose
"Humura" means be comforted in Kinyarwanda. Since 2001, we have been a survivor-led community in Ottawa dedicated to remembrance, healing, and action — keeping truth alive so justice can prevail.
Founded by survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Humura Association has grown from a small support circle into a recognized community organization serving the Ottawa-Gatineau region. We work with survivors, youth, educators, and community partners to ensure the memory of the genocide is preserved with dignity — and that its lessons reach future generations.
